FIMMWAVE is a generic, robust, fully vectorial mode finder for 2D+z waveguide structures, which may be of almost any geometry, including SOI, polymer and etched GaAs/AlGaAs waveguides, as well as single and multicore fibres.

FIMMWAVE contains a variety of robust and computationally efficient solvers optimised for generic rectangular structures often encountered in opto-electronics, circular fibres with generic radial refractive index profiles, or more general profiles such as diffused waveguide. A lot of original work has been put into this product to make these solvers extremely reliable. FIMMWAVE can also use approximate versions of these methods - ideal for rapid prototyping.

FIMMWAVE combines methods based on semi-analytic techniques, which allow to tackle problems with strong variations in refractive index, thin layers, etc. and numerical methods such as FEM or FDM. This allows FIMMWAVE to offer enough flexibility to solve accurately a very wide variety of waveguides.
